Kara DeFrias’ background is a unique mix of private and public sector experience, and most recently she served as Director of UX for Vice President Biden at the White House, where she worked on the Cancer Moonshot. Kara spent 4 years at TurboTax and received an appointment to the first class of Presidential Innovation Fellows. In the latter role she served as entrepreneur in residence, reimagining the relationship between the government and the people from a technology perspective. Previous work includes senior advisor to 18F’s executive director, founder of TEDxIntuit, and production staff on the Oscars and Super Bowl. A do-gooder at heart, Kara does pro-bono digital strategy for the likes of Team Rubicon; spent 10 days in rural India teaching micro-entrepreneur women human-centered design, product management, and business skills; and guest lectures at University of California San Diego STEM Academy for high school girls.
